HelloMD.com: ORTHO PAEDICS (BONE AND JOINTS)

Orthopaedics is concerned with bones, joints, muscles, tendeols and nerves - the skeletal system and all that makes it move.

ARTHOPLASTY (JOINT REPLACMENT - KNEE, HIP AND ELBOW JOINT REPLACEMENT)

Arthioplasty is an operation to restore motion to a joint and function to the muscles, ligaments and other soft tissue/structures that control the joint. Arthroplasty had its inception in the mid nineteenth century when surgeons attempted to produce extra articular Pseudoartherosis (creating a false joint) by simple resection (cutting) of stiff joints. The goals of total joint replacement are simple - to relieve pain, to provide motion with

stability and to correct deformity. This procedure is indicated in individuals with a painful disabling arthritic joint that is no longer responsive to conservative treatment.
