AND JOINTS)

Orthopaedics is concerned with bones, joints, muscles, tendeols and
nerves - the skeletal system and all that makes it move.ARTHOPLASTY
(JOINT REPLACMENT - KNEE, HIP AND ELBOW JOINT REPLACEMENT)
What
types of implants are used ?
AMS uses the best quality implants - For knee replacement we are
using Johnson and Johnson and How Medica implants. For hip replacement
Johnson and Johnson and How Medica and Mathy's implants are being
used. For hip replacement three vareities are available :- 1) Total
cemented. 2) hybrid (one part cemented and other un-cemented) 3) and
Total un-cemented. Total cemented varitiy is used for old patients and
the other two are used for the younger patients.
How frequently are replacements being carried out by AMS doctors
?
The ortopaedics team has carried out more than 1200 replacements by
the now and is proud to have vast number of satisfied patients. Since
last three years it has become a routinely carried out surgery in
India.
Does the pain in the joints completely disappear after the
surgery ?
Yes, since the whole joint and its articular surfaces (the surfaces
which rub against each other when the joint moves) are removed so
there is no question of pain in that area.
Does the human body accept the implants?
Since the implants are made up of inert materials, it is very rare
for a human body reject it.
Can a patient completely bend his knee joint after surgery?
It is not possible to touch back of your leg with the back of your
thigh after the surgery. But it is possible to carry out all other
normal activities of like sitting, running, cycling, and swimming.
Implants are available with which complete bending of the knee joint
is possible but those are not commonly used because of their un-stable
structure. With the above mentioned implants one can achieve knee
bending of upto 110 degrees which is good enough for carrying out
daily activities. The patient is able to do every thing except
squatting on the knee joints.
