How does cannabis enhance sex?

While I’m tempted to suggest the strain Alaskan Thunder F@#$, there is no evidence that any one strain enhances the physiological aspects of libido. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the strains that relax the body and reduce stress Indica or indica dominant hybrids) may help enhance sex. To improve overall physiological functioning, including that of the sex organs, a tincture of high CBD/low THC or 1:1 ratio may help, but it may take 4-6 week to see any changes. A solid exercise regime along with improved diet will also help, obviously.

I can not say specifically if marijuana will help your sex life as everyone reacts differently to cannabis. Add to this it can depend on what strain you are smoking if this is how you consume it or what product you choose to take if you are not smoking. There is a lot online you can read about how marijuana does indeed seem to help people’s sex life. I wrote an article that touches on this topic a few months ago called "Cannabis Improves Your Sex Life" (link below).

Cannabis Improves Your Sex Life โ€“ The Top 5 Reasons You Should Give Cannabis A Try

Some people believe cannabis can be good for sex in that for many people it can relieve anxiety. Others evidence seems to point to cannabis allowing the body to experience deeper and longer orgasms. Some men indicate that it is ‘nature’s Viagra’. Marijuana has been pointed to as an aphrodisiac for thousands of years, so it is not surprising that there seems to be a resurgence around this now that cannabis is somewhat in the limelight.

Psychiatrist, Dr. Lester Grinspoon, told High Times that weed โ€œgreatly enhances the sexual experience for many people. Thereโ€™s no doubt that when people are high, theyโ€™re more sensitive to their sexual feelings and urges.โ€ This all seems very positive! But again, it is subjective to what you consume. Smoking a strain that keeps you couch-locked is not sexy for instance.

Some strains that are commonly called out for sexual enhancement are: Voodoo, GrandDaddy Purple and Flo. These are by no means the only strains, but seem to be commonplace in strain lists that create ‘the mood’.

The other option that is great for the ladies in the room are sexual lubricant enhancers. Two that are very popular in California is ‘Quiver’ by HerbaBuena and ‘Foria Pleasure’ by Foria. Both of these are topical applications are applied to the vaginal area about 30 minutes before sex and can create a sensation that leads some to say ‘Wow’. Topical applications do not create a head high, which some people prefer.

It is interesting to note in our recent HelloMD patient study 13% of participants indicated they use marijuana as a libido enhancer. What is even more interesting is that more women than men use it in this way.

Hope this helps!

Great question! Using cannabis as an aphrodisiac is an ancient tradition. Cannabis promotes relaxation and increased blood flow. THC is also known to positively affect cell receptors directly involved in tactile sensation and euphoria, and inhibit pain while allowing for more pleasant signals to be received by the brain.

In general, I think a lot of cannabis products can help with libido. I don’t think this is really a question of which strain to use, but more which method of ingestion do you prefer? Additionally, there are some specific products made by Foria that you might want to take a look at.
