Loss of Appetite & Marijuana

Appetite Loss can come with many diseases, most commonly anorexia, cancer/chemotherapy, and HIV/AIDS. A 2007 Columbia University study found that orally ingested and and smoked/vaporized cannabis was seen to significantly increase caloric intake of HIV/AIDS patients by stimulating their appetite. Cannabinoids found in marijuana react with both the brainstem and nervous system receptors, which control the gastrointestinal tract. Strains of marijuana high in THC help promote the appetite by stimulating the CB2 receptor, too much CBD content, however, could interfere with THC’s ability to stimulate appetite. Cannabis taken for appetite increase is usually taken orally through edible marijuana products or smoked/vaporized.
