Nausea & Marijuana

Nausea is one of the oldest applications for medical marijuana. Over 50 studies, which have been conducted all over the world, have shown the efficacy of medical marijuana in combatting nausea. The anti-nausea affect of medical marijuana is two-fold. Medical marijuana targets the endocannabinoid system and blocks a specific brain receptor in the serotonin family. Comparative studies have found that cannabinoids are more effective than most other traditional pharmaceutical medications in the treatment of nausea. These discoveries have lead to the creation of a FDA approved synthesized THC that is used to treat nausea and vomiting in patients undergoing chemotherapy. Adversely, there have been reports of a cannabinoid hyperemesis (excessive vomiting) syndrome in long standing cannabis users under the age of 50 years old. The cause of this syndrome is unknown at this time.
