Epilepsy & Marijuana

Epilepsies are neurological disorders that usually present with seizures. There has been widespread press coverage about the treatment of Dravet syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, using medical marijuana. The story about Charlotte, a young girl suffering from Dravet Syndrome who’s seizures were greatly reduced by high CBD content marijuana oil, has driven many parents of children with epilepsy to try medical marijuana as well. The story sparked both controversy and interest. The exact mechanism that is responsible to marijuana decreasing seizure activity is unknown. One possible way is that the cannabinoids ability help to protect the nerve endings that are lacking in the internal endocannibinoid system.
