Q&A

Has anyone suffering from small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) found relief with cannabis?

Cannabinoids, whether naturally occurring endocannabinoids or externally administered cannabinoids, have been shown to reduce motility. With SIBO, normal function of the intestine is compromised and bacterial overgrowth occurs. This may be the result of a lack of adequate stomach acid, damage to the intestine by toxins like alcohol, or a decrease in the speed at which the small intestine transfers material to the colon. Therefore I do not recommend cannabis use with SIBO. Probiotics are recommended for maintaining healthy gut flora.
