Q&A

how does cannabis help to cure bladder cancer?

What I found by researching this topic on pubmed is that to date, there are quite a few studies completed IN VITRO which have found a potentially promising mechanism of action of cannabis in urological cancers, more so testicular cancers. To date, no clinical trials have been conducted for urological cancer patients. However, researchers found the presence of CB1 receptors (Cannabis activates both CB1 and CB2) in clear-cell renal cell carcinoma and chromophobe renal cell carcinoma, and in vitro experiments also point to the possible role of down-regulation of CB1 receptors in promoting clear-cell renal cancer cell activity. Basically, the receptors could play an important role in investigating treatment options and also be used for diagnostic purposes. Much research still needs to be done in this area though.
