Q&A

Is it safe for children to use CBD oil to treat autism and ADHD?

"My 13 year old son has high functioning autism and moderate ADHD. Which CBD Oil will work best for him?"

CBD oil (derived from hemp) is a type of cannabis oil that contains a significant amount of cannabidiol (CBD) and less than 0.3% of THC. In other words, the CBD oil that is made from hemp doesnโ€™t actually get you high. It is one of the most important naturally-occurring cannabinoids found in in the cannabis plant. There have been studies done to test the effects of CBD oil on ADHD and autism. Results of these studies deemed CBD oil a potential therapeutic target for the pharmacological management of the autism and ADHD.
Making recommendations for use of any product or drug, medical providers always make sure that carefully conducted studies have answered two critical questions. First, does the treatment actually work? And second, is it harmful? In essence, we need to be sure that the benefits outweigh the risks. There have not been any studies done a grand scale for me to confidently tell you that for sure it will treat autism and/or ADHD or that it has no long term effects of chronic use. But overall, CBD oil is a safe, legal, and easily-obtainable product that just about everyone in the U.S. has access to recommend discussing this with your child’s pediatrician as well. I hope I helped answer your question. Good luck.
