Q&A

What is best type of cannabis for depression and lethargy?

"I am depressed. Tired and I have fibro and bursitis on my left hip. Is there any strain that will help and not make me sleepy??"

Yes! There are plenty of strains that will not make you sleepy — in fact, a good sativa should give you more energy, boost your mood, and pick you up off the couch. Stay away from indica strains, which can be sleep-inducing for some people (myself included).

I would recommend strains with high THC such as Sour Diesel or Green Crack. Both are sativa-dominant hybrid strains that are great for lifting depression and enhancing feelings of well-being. A small amount in the morning should help jumpstart your day, much in the same way that a cup of coffee might, but without the nasty side effects of caffeine.

I suffer from depression as well, being tired, and in pain more often than not with neck issues, I feel you! Depression can be a tricky thing to treat in my experience, but what has really been working for me is a mix of low dose vape pens by Alchemy. I’ve been using Awaken & Explore in the mornings and when I hit that afternoon slump. I use Relax at night to help me sleep when I’m in pain, or just stressed out and I’m able to get up in the morning no problem. I also have Inspire but I find that I use it less than the others, it’s just not my jam. These blends are infused with botanicals as well, and I really like that. the flavor is lovely and reminds me of herbal teas. It’s a great way to dip your toe into cannabis treatment for mental health I’ve found because the low doses are easier to track and control. You’re not all-in all of a sudden. It’s very gentle.

As for pain, I’ve recently discovered these transdermal patches by Mary’s Medicinals. You put them on the inside of your wrist during flare ups and it really helps with spasms and muscle pain. They last for 12 hours and are pretty amazing. You don’t feel high, it just goes to work on your pain, much the way anti-inflammatories might. The patch is skin-colored (if you’re white) and can also be placed on the ankle. The combination of the Alchemy low-dose pens and the transdermal patches has been such a winner for me when it comes to depression and pain.

I hope you get to feeling better really soon, depression is the worst, and you should pat yourself on the back for reaching out and doing some good self-care. You deserve to feel better, you have worth and are valuable to the world. Don’t let your depression tell you otherwise.
