5 Rom Coms That Pair Well With Cannabis

Some people dread Valentine’s Day. Others get excited for discounted candy on Feb. 15 (speaking from experience). But for those who are spending the holiday with someone they love—or are just getting to know—and don’t want to do the usual Valentine’s Day dinner thing, a movie night in with cannabis could be the perfect plan.

Not only can marijuana make for a killer aphrodisiac, but it can also lighten the mood and ease any stress or anxiety you may experience on the big night.

Getting in the Mood With Cannabis This Valentine’s Day

Did you know that cannabis has long been used as an aphrodisiac, especially for women? Maybe you didn’t realize that the stats tell us cannabis consumers have more sex than non-consumers do.

While there’s no proven causal link between cannabis and sex, there are many ways in which cannabis heightens sexual pleasure. Just like marijuana interacts with receptors in the body to curtail inflammation, increase hunger or decrease anxiety, marijuana also interacts with our bodies to increase pleasure perception. This means cannabis can not only ease a nervous mind before sex, it can also make the sex itself feel better.

So, if you plan to consume cannabis while cozying up to your valentine at home this year, here are a few rom coms that will have you chuckling and snuggling far into the night.

1. “Crazy Rich Asians”

Released in 2018 to critical acclaim, this rom com is hot off the press and as of late last year took in more than $235 million across the globe, making it the highest-grossing rom com in 10 years.

The plot is a classic “meet the parents for the first time” setup, but with a totally fresh take. Every member of the cast pulls their weight, with equal parts laugh-out-loud moments and touching scenes that make your chest swell.

Not to mention the visuals and set design are bright, in your face and breathtakingly beautiful. To complement the gorgeous visual details, pair this flick with White Widow. This cannabis strain is known for imparting powerful visual effects, but with calm, uplifting properties, too.

2. “La La Land”

This musical romantic comedy winds through Los Angeles, casting a romantic and rosy-colored hue on a town that’s so often known for crushing dreams.

A jazz musician, played by Ryan Gosling, and an aspiring actress, played by Emma Stone, dance and sing their way through scenes of bliss, hilarity, heartbreak and closure. It’s a well-done encapsulation of what it’s like to fight for your dreams while also fighting for love.

And the music is top-notch, winning statues at the 2016 Oscars for best original score and best original song, “City of Stars.”

3. “Hitch”

This one isn’t exactly a new release, but it deserves its space in the romantic comedy hall of fame. Will Smith takes the lead as a callus dating coach, whose suave approach to life is outmatched by Eva Mendes’ illustrious character.

This movie is pure fun, with an ending that leaves you satisfied and even a bit joyful. Pair it with an uplifting cannabis strain like Blue Dream. This sativa-dominant hybrid is well balanced, with both new and experienced consumers reporting that it imparts calm euphoria with a nice body high.

4. “Pretty Woman”

It would be a disservice to American film if a list of romantic comedies didn’t include Julia Roberts. Chances are you’ve seen this movie since it came out in the ’80s and became an instant classic, but it’s always worth re-watching.

This is an unlikely duo beating the odds, providing endless comedic moments when their completely different lives converge on one another. It’s a film with great hair, even better ’80s fashion and two of America’s most iconic movie stars—what could be better?

5. “The Big Sick”

This 2017 movie was a blockbuster hit and provides a completely new take on the romantic comedy storylines we’re used to watching. What other romantic comedy do you know of where the love interest is in a coma? (No spoilers here, you learn this tidbit at the beginning of the movie.)

“The Big Sick” offers a unique perspective on modern love, the meshing of different cultures, grief and family. It’s a film filled with sincerity and truly hilarious moments that men and women alike can enjoy.

Cuddle up with someone you love (or like) this Valentine’s Day to watch a couple of feel-good romantic comedies. And if you add a dash of cannabis to your evening’s plans, you just may reach new heights in the bedroom as well.
