"I have severe insomnia and I was wondering what products and what percentage of THC and/ or CBD would be best for me?"
I am not a doctor but I do use cannabis to treat my sleepless nights and have found it to be effective. That said, everyone is different to how they react to cannabis and this may or may not work for you. I have also found that it took me several products to find the one that works best for me, but that may not be the case for you.
There is some information that is important to think about before you embark on using cannabis for sleep issues:
-First, is it anxiety that is keeping you up? If so, then you might want to avoid high THC strains or anything high in THC as this could exacerbate the issue.
-Smoking or vaping may be a quick way to induce a sleepy feeling, especially with an indica strain but edibles are thought to keep you asleep longer. This is due to the way edibles are metabolized within your body.
-There is not much recent research within this area but what I have found out there seems to indicate the combination of CBD and THC is most beneficial for sleeping. The right combination is dependent on your individual system.
-You have the option to smoke/vape, tinctures, sub lingual sprays, and edibles. There are a lot of choices and I recommend going to a dispensary with a wide selection and knowledgeable bud tenders.
Some top strains to smoke/vape (there are a lot of them):
-Afghan Kush – Indica
-GrandDaddy Purple – Indica with high levels of the terpene myrcene
-CBD Critical Mass – Hybrid – higher in CBD than THC
With edibles, I always warn people to start with half the recommended dose (or even less) and try night by night. I have had sleepless edible nights from taking too much of an edible.
Two products I have heard a lot about but have not tried are Sensi Chew Insomnia and Auntie Dolores triple brownie bite or Auntie Dolores caramel corn. Remember edibles can take up to an hour to take effect so you can have sweet bite right after dinner and it will take awhile to take effect. Many people might recommend starting with a 5-10mg dose and working up from there. 10mg is usually enough for someone to feel somewhat altered, especially if you are new to cannabis, proceed with caution!
My favorite product for me is by Absolute Extracts and it is Sleepytime. It is a sub lingual spray and two sprays is just enough, if I do 3 or 4 it is too much. I have been given those popular indica gummies that dispensaries often readily recommend and I really was not a fan, even at smaller dosages. For some people they work well.
