I am an IL resident and I don’t qualify for a mmj recommendation in my own state. However, I would qualify if I was a CA resident. I recently saw this article:

Is it possible to get a CA-based recommendation? My thinking is perhaps this will help provide some legal protection if something were to happen.

You will be able to register for a medical recommendation for cannabis in California, but you must physically be in the state of California during the time of your consultation. Once approved, you will have immediate access to the PDF copy, and the physical letter and plastic ID card will be mailed.
Please keep in mind that Illinois does not have reciprocity laws in place, so your California recommendation would not be valid there.
